Railroads Seek Rate Fixes At New York Meeting

Representatives of the New York Central Pennsylvania Erie Lake Shore Baltimore and Ohio Delaware Lackawanna and Western and West Shore railroads meet in Fink's New York office to fix rates. Officials report fewer shipper contracts and talk of a 50 to 75 cent westbound rate increase. A seven year money pool for western to seaboard business is reportedly prepared for signatures. Passenger rates southern to eastern points are to be restored by Tuesday. The Southern Railway and allied lines plan to ratify a southern rate war settlement with East Tennessee Virginia and Georgia and Richmond and Danville. Breakup of the Transcontinental association may affect Colorado Utah and Pacific coast groups. Grain rates to New York may rise to 12 cents, with day-to-day quotations only. Evidence suggests eastern trunk lines reached understandings and expect a 15 cent rate share for grain. Chicago eastbound lines are instructed to quote only present rates day by day.
