Brunswick teen arraigned on blackmail charge in Maine

Joseph Miller eighteen of Brunswick was arraigned in Auburn Municipal Court on blackmail alleging he sent a letter to Acting President Charles F. Holland of the Kingdom of Shiloh threatening to burn Shiloh buildings unless nine hundred fifty dollars were placed in a Brunswick box. Deputies arrested him at the box after he appeared there. He pleaded not guilty and was held on five hundred dollar bond.

Fire at Chelsea destroys two and a half story storehouse

A fire at 137-139 Auburn Street Chelsea last evening caused a loss of 15000 dollars and required two alarms with three city departments. The blaze destroyed a two and a half story wooden building owned by Joseph Shalek and occupied by I. Glazier and S. Rubin used as a cotton rag storehouse. Eight cows and a horse were rescued from an adjacent stable, and fifty chickens died from smoke.

Pleads Guilty to Bribery in Worcester Case

Worcester, Sept. 14. Patrick F. Canty, former Webster police chief, pleaded guilty in Superior Court to accepting a $180 bribe from Abraham Sandowsky to allow a whiskey laden car to pass through Webster without arrest. Three related charges were not pressed.
