William Jennings Bryan spoke in Louisville at Phenix Hill Park and Haymarket before large crowds. He warned Illinois voters they must back his ticket, saying a victory under 100000 would be a disappointment as supporters cheered the gold standard critique and Democratic principles.
In Belleville Illinois on September 14 a crowd heard William Jennings Bryan denounce the gold standard. He argued it raises gold values worldwide and harms workers by enabling money owners to profit from others toil. He urged laboring people to oppose the moneyed classes backing gold.
Forecast for Tuesday warns of threatening weather in New England and eastern New York with possible showers Tuesday afternoon and southeasterly winds.
After a restful night in a private car in East St Louis William J Bryan began his journey at 6 30 am with Congressman Allen and local supporters. The party rode a special train on the Louisville and Nashville line as far as Henderson Kentucky and Bryan reported he was in splendid voice and health this morning.

At Nashville supporters cheered his remarks on the money question and in Mt. Edward Estes and Mabel White, two missing persons in Beverly, may face prosecutions as authorities investigate their disappearance and related circumstances.
The Beverly incident centers on Howard Estes and Mabel White, a mar ried couple not to each other, who vanished together likely for Boston. The abandoned husband Fred White and Mrs Estes accuse elopement after Estes was seen with Mrs White at the depot. Police plan to locate the pair and bring them back.

Democratic candidate William Jennings Bryan arrived in Belleville Illinois to an enthusiastic crowd of more than 1000. He spoke briefly at Mascoutah before the train continued, warning that backing the gold standard would raise gold value globally and invite opposing money influences.
Three more arrests followed a Sunday clash at the Plant boarding house in Lynn. Agnes Clevins, accused of disorderly conduct after refusing to cook for non union workers, was arraigned. Landlady Georgie Allen and two non union boarders Milton Mansfield and Frank Plummer faced warrants for court Tuesday. Mansfield previously drew a revolver in a prior incident.
A train on the Arcata and Mad River line plunged forty feet when bridge stringers failed near Arcata California. Four passengers were killed and sixteen injured as the engine and two cars fell to the river gravel. Most passengers perished with the coaches except for one man Louis Hiverding who jumped from the rear platform.
Burglars entered Councilman Arthur W. Berry at 53 Hudson Street Saturday afternoon. They rifled drawers and boxes, opened a safe without extracting money, and stole valuable papers and several small jewelry items worth about $30.

Ex President of France M Alex Andre Ribot departs Bar Harbor Sept 26 sailing via New York for a United States tour. He has been hosted by John DeKoven while in Maine. Also in town is Mr Crackenthorpe QC who accompanied Lord Russell and arrived as guest of George B Dorr of Boston.
Malden September 14 Robert Crawford a tumbler with Washburns circus died at Malden Hospital from injuries suffered September 8 when he attempted a triple somersault and struck his head and shoulders during the circus performance.
In Portland the campaign is declared the most active in years with a landslide Republican win across the state. The Governor is the sole statewide winner as others go to the Legislature. Powers is forecast to lead with about a 49 000 plurality while county officers tilt heavily Republican and some counties offer no Democratic candidates.
