Special to the Post Newton September 13. Masons on the Newton sewer at Brook street worked at six yesterday. One laborer called Puddler Tim went missing inside the 24 inch brick sewer while repairing. A $10 reward brought a rescuer who found Tim dead drunk fifty yards in. They hauled both men to the surface and Tim woke, trying to go deeper before being secured.
At noon yesterday the first train over the new brooklyn to Wilsons Point route ran aboard the transportation boat Cape Charles. The Long Island railroad will connect with the Housatonic at Watsons Point, crossing fourteen miles of sound to Boston via the New England and related roads. Running time Brooklyn to Boston is expected to drop to six hours once the system runs smoothly.
A fast special train carrying railway officials derailed after colliding with a regular passenger train at Blanchville on the Danbury and Norwalk line. The wreckage involved the engine and cars of the special returning from Brooklyn on the Boston and Brooklyn route. No injuries reported. air brakes failed to operate.
In New London Connecticut twenty contractors and quarry owners pressed Congressman Charles L Russell for an investigation into Major W R Livermore US Engineer Corps over alleged bid discrimination and self performed work on Atlantic Coast river and harbor projects.
