James McCourt says he was living on when a shot was fired by Robert P. Nolan a volunteer policeman as two men were being placed under arrest shortly after midnight at Northampton and Washington streets. McCourt was a bystander.
In a Northwest tour speech President Wilson denounced the Boston police strike as a sign of Europe propagated unrest, praising federal troops for keeping order and drawing applause as he condemns the action that left Boston “defenceless against a lot of thugs.”
Boston policemen vote to return to duty after Governor Coolidge accepts AFL leader Samuel Gompers proposal to suspend right of affiliation pending a conference on October 6. Nineteen officers suspended are to be reinstated as a resolution follows.
Mayor Andrew J. Peters responds to Samuel Gompers of the AFL noting Boston’s police left posts and the Governor now commands state forces. The telegram directs Gompers to address the Governor, highlighting the difference from the District of Columbia.
No strike by Eastern Massachusetts Street Railway employees will occur for now as unions vote to postpone action until after next Tuesday. A conference with James H. Vahey counsel for the carmen and other union leaders will be held with the Board of Public Utilities at the State House to discuss the situation.

Commissioner Curtis issues a general order via Superintendent Crowley barring all patrolmen who did not report on September 9 1919 from returning to duty and forbids loitering at station houses. The edict also bans all outdoor gatherings in Boston including political rallies until further orders.

Dublin reports authorities moved to suppress Sinn Fein Parliament and Sinn Fein organizations across Ireland after a Belfast speech by Viscount French promising drastic measures to maintain law and order. Arrests were made and documents seized as the movement is treated as seditious.
