Grahame-White circled Boston Light to set a new record of 34 minutes 1 15 seconds for the $10,000 prize course. Ralph Johnstone of Wright machines broke American records for duration and distance and a new world record for accuracy. The event featured Brookins and Willard bombing targets aboard battleships as crowds cheered the final minutes of a dramatic air meet.

Twenty In Peril As Store Is Blown Up

Malden Sept 12 Twenty tenants fled for their lives after a massive explosion wrecked the drug store of Sn J. Mian at 3 Faulkner Street. A fire followed causing about 2500 in damage as smoke poured from windows and flames climbed the three story building, forcing occupants to escape.

Explosion at Store Injures Fireman and Nears Fire

Allian, at the store front, escaped as a blast ripped through the rear partition. Explosives and acids toppled from shelves while flames sprayed danger to firefighters. Michael S. Murphy of Hose 1 was struck by a flying coupling, suffering a deep cut and unconsciousness before Dr. C D McCarthy treated him. Origin of the blast remains unclear with theories of sun-induced acid explosions versus spontaneous ignition.
