Harriman buried in bed of lilies at Arden estate

Edward H. Harriman was buried at the Arden estate in Orange county after a private funeral led by his chaplain. The procession featured his estate staff and managers from dairies farms and trotting stables. Personal friends attended by invitation as the coffin was borne by the men who knew him best.

Curtiss Wins Italian Prize In Brescia

American aviator Glenn Curtiss adds to his record by winning the grand prize at the Brescia aviation meet. He flew 50 kilometres in 49 minutes 24 seconds, earning $6,000 from a $10,000 prize. Frenchman Rougier placed second after a 10 minute 18 second flight. Curtiss also won the quick starting prize with 81.5 seconds, while Le Blanc finished second in 93.5 seconds.

American aviator Curtiss wins altitude prize in Italian contest

The final day attracted a vast Italian and international crowd as weather stayed calm. Princess Letitia and her court greeted aviators including Curtiss who joked about a passenger trip. Curtiss reached 51 metres to claim second prize while Rougier won the grand prize, praising Curtiss as a true gentleman for yielding the top prize.
