Charles Benson died when the steamer Lille of People's Sin Tide swept him away while hoisting the anchor. The incident occurred during routine work aboard the Lille as it navigated near the harbor.
A pleasure excursion ends in tragedy as Carl Carlson is drowned and Charles Benson declared missing after their sloop anchored off Jeffries Point. Passengers Gustave Auckerman Edward Russell August Anderson Otto Kittell and Captain Olof Benson recount the event while the body remains unfound.

Emperor William arrived at Monachs Kiss Totis Hungary with General Count Obrutscheff among his suite. He was received at the railway station by Emperor Francis Joseph. The two rulers kissed twice and shook hands warmly. William wore the Austrian hussar uniform.
