Miss Marie Beckman of 42 Tremont Street Brighton, famed in Boston and New York art circles for beauty, secretly married Sept 2 to John L Barlow Jr of Newport who said he fell in love with his bride before meeting her yesterday.
Last spring Mr Barlow, at a Boston exhibit, fell for a painting titled The Candle Light by Guy Greene showing a 20 year old girl. He later wed Miss Marie Beckman, secret bride, in St Pauls rectory and fled on a weeklong elopement to Brockton with Mrs Barlow claiming her father August Beckman as a Greenville farmer.
Allied troops push from Saloniki into Bulgaria with British leading a crossing of the Struma near Lake Tahino and four villages captured. French center unsettles lines at Varvar and Lake Doiran while Serbs seize two villages near Ostrovoska Lake as battle rages across the front.
King Constantine of Greece, a Hohenzollern relative, rose as the potential commander in chief of allied forces in Macedonia. As the campaign for the recon quest of Serbia and the Orient railway nears, Greece may join the Entente, unless signs on the Macedonian horizon shift.

Miss Dorothy Shepard an 18 year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Walter Shepard was found unconscious in a bathtub at 79 Bloomfield street Dorchester yesterday afternoon. Parents say she was merely faint. Police investigate possible poisoning or accident.
Mrs A S Faught reported gas odor from a bathroom where 8 year old Miss Shepard lay unconscious in a tub filled with water. A rubber gas jet tube and chloral bottle were found nearby as doctors rushed her to City Hospital with a gas poisoning diagnosis and non fatal condition.
The state begins a brief special session at noon the first in 44 years. Four items are on the agenda including relief for families of guardsmen at the border, absentee voting for soldiers, extending nomination filing time in Suffolk County, and a Casey resolution to form a committee on reapportionment covering Plymouth Wessex Middlesex Hampden and Bristol counties. Governor McCall will deliver a brief special message at opening.
Maine voters elected a Republican slate including Governor Milliken by 13,355 plurality. Hale won the Senate race by about 10,000 votes and Fernald about 13,000. Curtis and Hersey also won seats as Republicans carried the fourth district as returns continued from 126 of 173 precincts. Democrat losses included the Senate and a House seat.
Robert Sedgwick Minot, heir to Boston wealth and kin of Laurence Minot, wed Miss Murielle Johnston, a Minneapolis stenographer, in Chicago on September 3. The union, kept secret from Minot relatives, prompts Mrs. Minot to announce plans for a film career with her husband as major stockholder.
A man registering as John Gilhooley of Boston killed himself in a Continental Hotel room last night by shooting himself through the heart. The body was found by a hotel employee.
Marie Larsen seven, daughter of Mrs Rose Larsen of Lawn Street Roxbury, died at City Hospital from burns suffered while playing with matches at home in the afternoon. Her mother smothered the flames and rushed her to hospital where she succumbed last night.
Suffolk county representative reapportionment fight to reopen in the Supreme Court today with a bid for an injunction to block the revised apportionment report filed yesterday from taking effect. Chairman Herman Hormes says the court may also be urged to hold apportionment board members in contempt for not following court mandates.
Police rushed to the Third Avenue elevated line in Harlem after a train was fired upon and bricks and bottles pelted other cars. A woman and a man aboard another train were wounded in the head by bricks. surface transit halted across Manhattan and surrounding areas. Officials vow swift action and possible mandamus in a reapportionment dispute.
The Republican party swept Maine on September 11, securing the governorship for Carl E. Milliken and capturing both U S Senate seats in the first popular election, with Bert M. Fernald and Colonel Frederick Hale defeating the Democratic challenger.
