Fire at Paragon Park Nantasket destroyed the dance hall the old mill the moving picture theatre the entrance and part of the roller coaster. The Palm Garden survived while 100000 spectators viewed the ruins and several firefighters were injured. The blaze started in the sand bumps around 1 am and swept eastward then north.
A strong diagonal wind drove flames through the park damaging the northwest end destroy ing the power station several stalls and a moving picture theatre while other buildings survived. Fire crews from Hull Cohasset Hingham Scituate Quincy and nearby towns battled the blaze as a water curtain protected the Palm Garden.

Ernest F. Mattison of Providence, 22, died after a six hour struggle with a gale in Cape Cod bay near Ship's Pond Village Manomet. Donald H. Allen of Edgewood R I, his companion, barely reached shore after their oat boat capsized in the rough sea. Allen's attempt to save Mattison nearly cost him his life.
Allen collapsed on the shore and lay unconscious for about an hour before rescue, with the incident noted to continue on Page 16 in the third column.
German and Bulgarian troops capture the fortress of Silistria on the Danube in western Dobrudja. Rumanian and Russian forces in Dobrudja report heavy losses. Other fronts see Romanian advances near Orsova, and Russian actions across the Carpathians with mixed outcomes. The Somme fighting features continued bombardments and German counterattacks north of Ginchy and south of Berny en Santerre.

Eugene LaVangie a 17 year old Newfields High School pupil attempted a 25 foot fall from an electric pole this afternoon and gripped a 13 000 volt high tension wire He was burned head to waist and is in critical condition at Portsmouth hospital The fall occurred after he climbed a Bay Side picnic cross arm failed and he caught the wire The 13 000 volt line is operated by Rockingham County Light and Power Company Portsmouth NH
Under sunny skies more than 15 000 Massachusetts Odd Fellows marched through Boston streets yesterday afternoon. They then attended a large open-air service at Fenway Park marking the annual Church Day of the Triple Link League with thousands cheering.
The largest public gathering by the Odd Fellows in the state featured a flag parade with color bearers from 75 lodges marching across Fenway Park. Thousands in the grandstand stood uncovered as the Star Spangled Banner played in unison with a 60 piece band.

Daniel Sullivan a fireman's helper at Lynn Gas and Electric Company perished after falling into a coal hopper. Weighed down by seven tons of coal, he remained wedged with an arm protruding. rescuers labored for two hours but could not save him as a physician monitored his pulse.
In New York on September 10, workers across stage crews longshoremen brewery machinists bartenders moulders and printers voted to strike in solidarity with the unionized carmen who quit their plants four days earlier. Gompers urged sanction for the action. Hugh Frayne AFL organizer announced the plan at a meeting of union heads.
A resolution urges all unionized wage earners in Greater New York Yonkers Mt Vernon White Plains and New Rochelle to strike in solidarity with street railway workers right to organize. Some 750000 union members were represented at the meeting as delegates weigh mass meetings and a vote before any action.
Forecast for northern New England calls for fair weather Monday and probably Tuesday with slowly rising temperatures. Southern New England and eastern New York expect fair conditions Monday with Tuesday turning more cloudy and warmer.
