A severe storm in Medford brings heavy rainfall and widespread lightning. A man is reported killed by a bolt as damage spreads across the area. Local authorities investigate the incident and assess the aftermath.
A violent electrical and hail storm swept New England yesterday, killing one man and destroying property including $100,000 worth of tobacco in Connecticut. Lightning struck trolley poles in Plymouth and caused fires in Providence. trains held in New Haven as central and western areas bore the brunt. Temperatures rose into the nineties in Boston area amid heavy rainfall and damage across multiple states. In Chicago aviator Paul Peck died after a biplane crash caused by a gusty wind during a steep spiral, the engine piercing his neck in the wreck.

Mrs. Johnson, in ill health for a year and despondent, shot herself during a bout of nervous prostration. Two maids wrestled the pistol from her as she aimed at her head, then Johnson rushed her to a hospital after returning with railroad tickets to New Mexico.
