Eight year old Edwin Welch of Jamaica Plain sacrificed his life to save his seven year old brother Raymond from drowning in Scarboro pond West Roxbury. Both boys were sailing toy boats near a footbridge when Raymond fell in. Edwin jumped in and gripped Raymond but sank. Park employee James Hennessy rescued Raymond but Edwin did not survive.
