Freight Train Wreck at Lewiston Causes Major Damage

Twelve cars of through freight No. 22 from Waterville to Portland wreck just after midnight near the State Fair grounds station. The eighth car detached and eleven more piled across the track in all directions. Six to eight cars badly damaged with some total wrecks. Traffic only briefly interrupted by detention of the through Skowhegan freight. Estimated damage likely between $20,000 and $30,000. Cause believed to be a broken axle.

Officials raid Harlow's stable for gambling cards

District officers swooped on Harlow's stable at L and Second streets yesterday morning and seized two packs of cards and eight men charged with gambling.
