The coroner's jury finds the Park Place building's timber and walls fair but iron columns weaker than specifications. The collapse stemmed from fractures in these columns due to a sudden exterior shock, not inherent weakness. It cannot determine if an explosion of benzine caused the shock. Millers and grain handlers in the twin cities protest a new joint tariff by St Paul & St Louis, Omaha, and Soo railways. Wheat moving from Minnesota and Dakota points to Duluth will have no freight charges from St Paul to Duluth, while Minneapolis grinders face 15 cents a barrel Levy for four ground products shipped to Duluth. The mills say the policy violates interstate commerce law and plan a big meeting.
The cotton market fell sharply with prices down 20 to 30 points from last night. Total sales reached 188,300 bales as Liverpool and foreign houses sent heavy selling orders before the open. Government crop data showing only a seven point decline in condition spurred a stampede to sell, driving many options to session lows.

Secretary Foster plans a further withdrawal of 2,000,000 from depository banks. The action targets banks with excessive government funds relative to security. In cities with multiple depositories, one will be discontinued and the funds moved to meet the 2,000,000 total.
Sandwich Sept 10. The Canadian syndicate did not deposit the fund required for a charter to build a canal across Cape Cod. The charter will revert to the old company if $100,000 is placed in the State treasury by Nov 1, and construction is expected to resume soon after.
