Trade Improves Slightly As Fall Business Nears End
Trade has improved a little this month though fall gains seem unlikely. Manufacturers close orders while duplicates and new orders help keep factories running. Improvement stems from goods sold from stock as buyers seek desirable lines. Large jobbers and retailers visit markets, preparing for spring trade, with stocks trimmed and renewed later. Boston jobbers gain new regional trade while shipments to New England areas decline slightly. January to date shipments total 1,919,896 cases, vs 1,149,490 last year, a sizable increase.
