Spectator struck as motorcycle race crashes at Elks benefit
In Providence on September 9 the Elks benefit at the Coliseum drew about 8000 spectators. He suffered a fractured thigh and minor injuries while several bystanders were hurt. Dady Callahan, from Waltham, Massachusetts, was distractedly noted, and Albert Champion filled in for Will Stinson who could not race. Champion was out of training as Stinson’s replacement and was lapped by Southerner eleven times as the event proceeded.

Pulse and Temperature Signals Doctors See in Illness
A physician explains official bulletins from the sick chamber noting that high pulse and temperature do not always mean grave danger. A 102 degree reading is not inherently dangerous. Pulse reflects pain and heart effort. respiration indicates general condition, not specific lung injury. For the President, respiration is relatively unimportant while pulse can be dangerous if weak. shock raises pulse and makes it thready. Temperature may vary, and a rise to 106 or 104 signals possible danger if it remains.
