Buffalo observers report the President’s condition improving with no unfavorable symptoms or signs of inflammation. Doctors caution the wound remains dangerous and none will say he will surely live, though the President remains cheerful and confident of recovery.
Boston authorities move to round up anarchists after the Post reveals the local cell. Police Commissioner orders division chiefs to identify and detain suspected members and report to headquarters.
Nathan Fingold a Boston anarchist was arrested after police acted on reports from The Post about threats and alleged society activity. Inspectors seized Fingold at 60 Compton Street and escorted him to the chief’s office where he protested and questioned why his opinions affect his freedom. The police sought names of society members but reported limited success.
Fair conditions for Boston and vicinity on Tuesday with warmer temperatures and light variable winds. Wednesday expected partly cloudy to cloudy with possible light showers and warmer air, winds shifting to southerly in the region with some western portions likely affected.
Official bulletin reports the president in improving condition. At 9 20 A M pulse 122 temperature 100 8 respiration 28 and at 9 30 P M condition favorable with pulse 122 temperature 101 respiration unknown. By 4 00 P M condition steadily improves with pulse 113 and respiration not fully shown.
Bulletins report at 1:00 A.M. on September 10 that the president's condition continues to improve with pulse 110, temperature 101, and respiration 26.
The Hon. John D. Long arrives by train in Hingham and plans an indefinite stay. He will head to Buffalo if the President’s condition worsens and said he is in constant contact about developments. He declined to discuss anarchist comments about the attempted attack on the President.
A special from Silver City New Mexico reports Antonio Maggio the musician and alleged anarchist was arrested by United States Marshals on orders from Washington. He was taken near San Rita just outside the city after a prior assassination threat connected to the case.
The excerpt quotes Tom Reed recalling the McKinley assassination attempt. Reed stresses that presidents are exposed to danger and must be protected, noting the era requires vigilance for the head of state.
Chicago September 9 two thousand Socialists voted down a resolution expressing regret for the attempted assassination of President McKinley at Bergman’s Riverside meeting yesterday Opponents argued McKinley represents the capitalistic class and his safety is not a concern to Socialists.
