Excess Insurance Access Through State Bonds

The city’s major firms face limits on insuring buildings and contents with state-authorized companies. In the September term before Judge Aldrich Francis Bartlett pleaded guilty to drunkenness and was fined one dollar plus costs Hugh McQuirk convicted of keeping a liquor nuisance received a fifty dollar fine and costs William Kelley for larceny and John Warr for adultery were brought in on bench warrants and held at five hundred dollars each for trial The grand jury may hear one or two murder cases next Saturday for the term The sheriff reports two hundred nine prisoners in Charles Street jail with one hundred seventeen held for trial thirty eight for fines and costs twenty nine for sentence two hundred twenty executions two witnesses and one judgment debtor.

Municipal Courts Sentences From Sept. 7 Police Raid

In various city courts Judge Hardy ordered bail and future trials for numerous defendants after a Rose Cobb's den raid. Jumping Jim Henderson faces $500 bail for maintaining an unlicensed dance hall and liquor sale, with Sept. 17 trial. Kitty Mansfield also $500 bail for illegal liquor sales. Others received prison or industry sentences, fines, or probation for larceny, assault, drunkenness, or keeping houses of ill fame. Several cases are bound for the superior court or continued for Aug. 15.

Art Critic Sidney Dickinson Launches European Art Lectures

Burglary at Nantasket Beach Strikes Ocean View House

A daring Monday morning burglary at Ocean View house on Nantasket beach was discovered after a rear door was forced open with a jimmy. The safes of proprietor D O Wade were blown open on the beach with powder, yielding cash, diamond rings, a gold watch, and jewelry. Evidence points to a carriage escape with entries at Hotel Standish and the Vine cafe, with liquor and cigars stolen.
