The Senate adopted the finance committee compromise for a total war profits levy of 1.286 billion dollars, about one third of this year's war and normal excess profits, an increase of 1.06 billion over current taxes. High tax advocates failed to win any amendments.
The finance committee draft passes 72 to 7 with seven dissenters named Bankhead Borth Gronna Johnson California La Vollette Underwood Vardaman. Amendments by Hollis La Follette and Johnson of California fail in successive roll calls by wide margins.
