Gaston seeks united Democratic choice for presiding officer
The Gaston faction backs a neutral chairman candidate for the Massachusetts Democratic State convention. A Post interview quotes campaign manager McSweeney saying the aim is the best Democrat, not a Gaston ally, with Richard Olney as a preferred option if acceptable to the state committee. If not, many capable Democrats could serve. The goal is a unifying pick to aid the party and Gaston’s renomination prospects.
