Vermont Republicans win broad statewide victory in 1900

Vermont Republicans swept the state and congressional tickets by a large plurality, led by Stickney for Governor and Allen for Lieutenant Governor. The State Senate remains solidly Republican, with about 20 of 246 seats. Republicans lead county tickets and expect similar margins in the General Assembly. Congressmen Foster and Haskins are elected, while party leaders anticipate a modest Democratic gain in the Assembly. Roosevelt and Depew addressed the convention, urging national unity and sound money.

National party nominates Caffery and Howe at Carnegie Hall

The National party convened in Carnegie Hall New York on September 5 and nominated Douglason Caffery of Louisiana for President and Archibald Murray Howe of Cambridge Massachusetts for Vice President. The platform rejects imperialism and pledges a single gold standard a merit based public service and abolition of special privileges.

Fessenden's Man Beaten In Connecticut Republican Fight

In New Haven on September 6 the Connecticut Republican State convention nominated George P. McLean for Governor and MeLean won by 49 votes over Donald Warner. The ticket includes Edwin Keeler, Charles G. R. Vinal, and Abram Chamberlain with electors named by district and at large. The convention met from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with two hours for nominating speeches.

Erving Winslow, secretary of the Boston Anti-Imperialist League, shrugged off Senator Frye of Maine referencing help for anti-imperialists. He focused on the Vermont election result, noted McKinley is accused of declaring war on the Filipino people, and stated Bryan is seen as honest though potentially risky.
