At the Colored National League gathering in the A M E Church on Charles Street, Hon J B Allers stance against the anti lynch law resolutions sparked a clash with supporters of McKinleys administration. Italian Steamer Wrecked Off Rio Janeiro

The Italian steamer Cetta di Torene, en route from Cenca to Buenos Ayres, struck rocks near Fort Cage as it left Rio Janeiro harbor at 1 o clock. Naval aid saved all passengers and 10,000 bags of coffee and freight. The vessel was towed to Cobras Island for repair.

Colored Republicans organize Crane Bates Innes Club Ward 12

Over fifty Black Republicans in Ward 12 met at 4 Claremont Street to form the Crane Bates Innes Republican Club. Speeches were delivered by Ransom Hare and Major, with notable attendees including Representative Dumond ex-Representative Krebs and Councilman Moore. Officers elected: President Robert P. Ransom, Vice President Henr H. Smith, Secretary William E. Walker, Treasurer William H. Turner, Executive Committee William L. Holley H. L. A. Clark Jesse J. Farrier George W.
