One man died and nine others injured when a large touring car with nine passengers skidded on the main road between Amesbury and Salisbury near Rabbit road. The vehicle overturned twice, throwing Patrick F. Walsh of Peabody and eight others onto the road. Walsh was killed instantly.
At Braves Field the Braves won 3 to 2 in the morning game and lost 8 to 3 in the afternoon to the Giants. Detroit sits one game behind the Sox in the pennant chase as Boston leads the National League.
The Phillies crushed the Dodgers twice in Philadelphia to pull even with Brooklyn and draw within reach of the Braves. Tomorrow the Braves visit Braves Field for two games with the Phillies as the pennant race tightens.

Thomas Vaughn of 56 Blossom Street Bradford district Haverhill was arrested late this afternoon at Haverhill and will be arraigned tomorrow morning in the Amesbury District Court charged with manslaughter.

Eyewitnesses report a man and woman leaving the woods after the collision and boarding a Lawrence bound car. authorities questioned Frank and Catherine McKone of 42 Hampshire Street who reportedly were with Mulhearne before the incident.
Natator Jack Hurwitz perished while attempting a cross sound swim from Falmouth to Oak Bluffs. The daring voyage drew attention in local sports circles and marine safety discussions. Hurwitz was known for endurance swimming and had trained for the challenging voyage.

The young woman was choked and her body dumped in a pond after a quarrel with the prisoner’s wife. Kubieci denied knowledge but said he had been near the site. the body was found when the pond dried up a year later.
John Robinson and Daniel Heffernan, both youths from Boston, escaped Dedham jail at 7 45 yesterday morning by digging an eight inch square hole in their brick cell wall with a dipper handle. They crawled into the corridor then exited through a street door.
An Italian inmate in a neighboring cell did not cry out when escaping after threats of punishment. Officer Flanagan's hourly cell check shortly after 8 am revealed the escape, leading to the arrest of Robinson and Heffernan for jewelry theft from Mrs. John T. Eliot in Dedham after a pawnshop incident in Hanover Street. The suspects, Lyman School graduates, were known to police as bad customers.

Falmouth reports the drowning of Hurwitz and Thompson from the L Street Swimmer’s Club during a bid to swim from Falmouth Heights to Oak Bluffs. Hurwitz led for four hours before collapsing, and both men disappeared after the power boat Marion could not reach them in the rough sea.
Hurwitz collapsed during a 10 30 morning race as the Marion picked up other swimmers. Gus Wise ordered Toth out of the water and a search began for the missing men, but no trace was found. Captain Robert Laird declared both men drowned amid rough wind and outgoing tide off Hedge Fence Light ship. Other starters included Jacob Braff George Eddy Stephen Eddy and Stephen Marale.
Leon LaFlamme 22 of Leicester was riding a motorcycle down Rice's hill two miles from Marlboro when it hit street railway tracks and skidded. He was rushed to Marlboro Hospital in serious condition with a suspected skull fracture.
