In Everett near the Boulevard a 14 year old, William Rollins Jr., drowned while attempting to save 7 year old George Plunkett from a clay pit. The two boys were playing when both disappeared under the water as onlookers watched.
Union waiter employees of the Adams House and the Hotel Lenox won higher pay and better working conditions. The Lenox grants a 10 percent wage rise with a further 5 percent on Oct 1, plus longer shifts and overtime pay. Adams House raises include a $2 monthly bellboy increase and raises for checkers and butchers, with waiters relieved from extra duties.
Boston fans cheered as the Red Sox defeated the Senators 6 to 2 in the opening clash. Jake Stahl’s lineup pushed hard all afternoon, showcasing topnotch speed and superior team strength.

George Shaughnessy and Frank Hughes, uncles of a Plunkett boy, jumped into the water to rescue children after a plank sank on a nearby island. In 15 minutes they recovered two bodies while several boys, including Robert Budroe and his brothers, worked to pull the others to safety as more planks were secured and the shore was reached.
A window crack on the building at 121 Court Street just before midnight revealed a blaze on the third floor occupied by Finer Brothers. Heat caused further glass damage on the Salvation Army headquarters above as flames spread, with total damage about $25.
New York September 4 Cornelius G Hayes the demoted police inspector set to go on trial Friday for alleged false statements about his police duties in the raid of disorderly houses will testify at the John Doe hearings probing police corruption.
Hayes met District Attorney Whitman in a secret conference to learn if indictment would be sought in the graft inquiry. Whitman said he had evidence to present to the grand jury. Hayes protested innocence and asked delay until after his police trial, fearing his role as scapegoat.
