New York Sept 4 Directum the greatest trotting stallion established a new record by trotting a mile with a running mate in 2 07 at Fleetwood Park. The 12000 attendance saw a flawless display with Directum accelerating under driver Kelly and pacing the track in steady, even strides.
A horse opened the quarter in thirty seconds and the half in 1:00 1/4, shattering public distance records. The three-quarters passed in 1:32 1/4, with a final time around 2:06 7, a new world record for the stallion class. Pasel also tied the five-tye record, clocking 12:45 in a timed race against the clock. Lady Mac n set the previous mark.

Novelist M. Paul Bourget and Madame Bourget landed at Parker House yesterday afternoon en route to Beverly for a visit with society host Mrs. Jack Gardner. They traveled from Newport aboard the Old Colony division and planned to sail on Mr. Ogden Goelet's yacht if weather allowed. Bourget had his cottage photographed at the Cliffs Hotel. A photographer captured Madame Bourget with the trio in a honeysuckle bower as the French ambassador stood between Bourget and Peter Marle. Newport visitors among the callants included the Belmonts, the Goelets, Mr and Mrs F. W. Vanderbilt, Col and Mrs Waring, Mrs Calvin S Brice, and Marquis and Count Lauaat with Prince Caracciolo.
The second annual reunion of the Fourth Massachusetts Heavy Artillery Association was held at Ocean View House Nantasket Beach with about 150 attendees. Dinner at 1 o'clock followed by a business meeting led by John W. Bates, who presided in the absence of the president. officers elected include J H Blaney president B F Evans vice president Jacob Spaulding treasurer and an executive committee with multiple company representatives. The group instructed the executive committee to choose a place and arrange next year’s reunion.
New England rand Circuit races at Franklin Park run September 5 to 8 with nominations on September 5 and 6 for trot and pace events. Admission is 50 cents. Hourly trains on the Saugus Branch run to the event. James O. Gray is manager and H. W. Burruss serves as starting judge.
Jerome Bonaparte dies at 9:30 PM Monday at his summer home Harrison House in Pride's Crossing Manchester by the Sea. The residence, owned by General Charles G. Loring's family, is a secluded Atlantic coast retreat described as a former Newport Casino stockholder and Newport Reading Room member. An unknown man about 50 years old, six feet tall, was recovered from the water near the bathhouse at the West Boston bridge shortly after 7:30 am. Patrick J. Corcoran found the body with police help. it is at North Grove street morgue awaiting identification. He wore a black cutaway coat, black trousers, cheviot shirt, blue necktie, and brown hat. two cards bore the name Patrick J Conway and address Doctors Copeland and Cowdrey 172 Tremont street.
