The Union Pacific directors ratified the deed of trust securing the new notes and the formal agreement was signed by the Creditors' Committees in New York. Over three-fourths of creditors have agreed to extend their claims. In Concorp. H. finals, K D Wren defeated G F Brown Jr in straight sets 6-0 6-2 6-3.
In reports from New York dated September 4, a flotilla of steamers and brigs is listed with destinations including Hamburg Gonaives Lisbon and Copenhagen. The Interstate Commerce Commission sustained a Black passenger’s challenge to Texas separate coach laws. The case involved a negro buying a chair car ticket from Louisiana to Texas and being transferred to separate coaches upon entering Texas. The commission held that the federal law governs interstate transport and the Texas provision affects only state transportation.
Sidney Old alias Samuel Owens, former secretary and cashier of Fisher Renwick at Dry Dock and Jetty Co Newcastle on Tyne, stole £5,000 over months. Detected after two week vacation, extradition papers ready. Captured in Detroit after Western circuit search, will be sent to New York for British Consul handling.
Gov Pattison told a legislative committee that as Chestnut Street National Bank president the State held a $100,000 unsolicited deposit with no interest or favors involved. Chicago dispatch reports General Russell A. Alger of Detroit stating he has never declared he would or would not seek the presidential nomination. He says he has not discussed his own candidacy and will not decide until offered. Alger adds Blaine’s nomination would be up to Blaine and denies any claim that Blaine told him he was a candidate.
Fire in the shade roller building on Fayette street Watertown occupied by three Boston firms caused about 25000 dollars in loss. Government Waterproof Paint Company Campbell Electric Supply and John Ralston faced heavy water and smoke damage with extensive stock and equipment losses. Night watchman Joseph Richardson severely burned while trying to fight the blaze.
President Harrison with George W. Boyd and Mr. McKee departed at 6:45 AM by special train for a day of brig shooting on Maurice River Meadows. They arrived Port Elizabeth at 7, harvested 14 birds for the President and 7 for each companion. Villagers welcomed him with fruit, flowers, and plentiful handshakes before returning to the Presidential cottage late afternoon.

Kansas City news reports Louis Bulling, convicted murderer of St. Joseph, killed himself with a revolver while awaiting execution at Savannah Mo. The Rev August Lavake, his spiritual adviser, was arrested for supplying the weapon. Bulling died on the gallows at 3 25 pm after a dramatic scene, cursing and pleading for mercy.
Pittsfield, Sept. 4. Detective Sergeant Hanly and Chief Nicholson arrested Bernard Bannister, a colored man wanted in New York for a major larceny last year. He acted as a caterer at a West Twenty-third Street boarding house where trunks of the Chambers family were stored. Goods valued at about 1500 dollars were stolen, later traced to pawnbrokers in New York. Bannister, living in Pittsfield, denies the charge and will be sent to New York after waiving requisition.
Harmon Murray, a colored outlaw who had terrorized a wide area and killed seven men, was slain by 17 year old Hardy Early in a swamp near Archer, after Murray forced Early to load a double barrel shotgun. Early fired both barrels, killing Murray instantly and later reclaimed rewards and public acclaim.
