In Haverhill, Julia Guquin aged 15 and Bertha Guquin aged 13 perished after drowning in a pond hole. Authorities report the sisters were found together and had been missing since the afternoon.
A funeral at St Margaret's Church on Columbia Road was interrupted as mourners joined a pursuit of a woman accused of stealing two purses containing 30 dollars during mass. The chase ran along Columbia Road with shouts and rapid pursuit by the fleeing thief's pursuers.

John J Brown was killed on board the steamer Juniata off Battery wharf at 11 30 pm. Robert M Mongin, a fellow engineer, is jailed at Court Square police station charged with the killing.
