Corxisn Me September 8 A sad accident occurred on the Portland and Ogdensburg railroad tonight. The through express for Portland derailed at East Baldwin due to an open switch. Engineer Chandler was killed and Firman Costello likely badly injured. Two passenger cars and one baggage car were thrown from the track, the baggage master and brakeman hurled over the engine. The engine wrecked a passenger tally sheet shows up, but no one seriously injured. Track will likely be cleared by morning.
Beverly September 8 A blaze at Jeremiah Cipate’s barn on Dodge’s Row consumed five tons of hay and the structure. The loss is insured and a woman seen nearby before the fire is suspected as the arsonist, but no trace has been found and fear remains she may have perished in the flames.
A 12 year old girl, Mary OConnell, reportedly shot herself in the right cheek last night at home No 60 Whitney Street Dallas. A physician was called to treat the injury after the improvised weapon entered the cheek and caused concern.
Yesterday Mayor O'Brien sent a copy of the following letter to prominent citizens in Boston. The letter, dated Sept 1586, invites a meeting of citizens at City Hall on Saturday Sept 4 at 12 o'clock noon to discuss an unspecified matter.
