British and Canadian troops breach the Drocourt Queant line on a ten mile front and push the enemy more than three miles. Thousands of German prisoners are captured as entrenched resistance proves desperate but futile.
President Wilson fixed 2.20 dollars per bushel as the guaranteed minimum for the 1919 wheat crop. A disinterested commission will be named next spring to decide whether costs of labor and supplies warrant a higher price.

In New Bedford Massachusetts a street shooting ends with Stanislaw Kivaitkowski dead and Policeman John B. Downey and Alverine De Moura wounded. De Moura is arrested on murder charges after firing at Downey during a disturbance. Downey shoots De Moura who then flees and is captured.

Lawrence, Sept 2 A medical team from Boston and Lawrence Hospital found that Bessie May Skeels who is to be arraigned tomorrow in Lawrence court on a murder charge did not attempt suicide. Doctors Donoghue and Sullivan reported the finding to attorney Daniel J Daley after examining her at the Lawrence Hospital.
Doctors at the hospital say Mrs. Skeels received bruises only from attendants who held her up to eat and report the marks were not abuse. They attribute her condition to hysteria caused by a psychic shock from an unspecified event.
