European powers had backed France to police Morocco and recognize the Sultan against the usurper. France moved to enforce peace, while Germany reversed course, recognizing the usurper and upsetting the agreed plan, creating a tangle in the Moroccan situation.
Paris September 2 Germanys step to end the concert of powers over Morocco by urging immediate recognition of Mulai Hafid the usurping sultan caused a tense reaction in Paris.
Yesterday the French press avoided accusing Germany of political motives in Tangier and Fez. Today Germany’s official notification recognizing Mulai Hafid, delivered verbally, provokes consternation in official circles. French tensions rise as fanatical Arabs attack the Boudenib post on the Algerian frontier.
Charles H. Writer was found guilty of unlawfully using the Masonic name to organize a lodge. He was held in $00 bonds upon appeal to the Superior Court after five days in police court before Judge Charles H. Brood in Fitchburg.
Omaha reports the murder of Dr Frederick T Austin a famed Yale athlete and renowned surgeon. He was killed just before daylight while trying to enter his home. No clues or suspects have been identified. Austin gained national reputation in medicine and led Yale’s baseball team in college. His brother Henry Rustin held top electrical posts at the Pan American Exposition in Buffalo and the St Louis World’s Fair.
Austin Rustin died after being shot on his porch in the West Farnam district. He was found unconscious by his wife at about 3 am and died two hours later after an operation. Police doubted self harm and investigated a murder with no external blood evidence.
Police investigate an intentional blaze at 65 Hammond Street in Cambridge that endangering 6 year old Grace Johnson. The fire was confined to the cellar and first floor, with kerosene soaked mattresses and oil on shelves found during the search. Chief Casey has summoned investigators and a watch was placed on the burned residence.

William J. Bryan denounces Coleman Dupont of Delaware and Senator Penrose of Pennsylvania as not reformers due to ties to trusts. He campaigned across Minnesota and Iowa, traveling overnight to Sioux City and greeting hundreds from a train platform after arriving before 8 p.m.
In Alton Iowa he spoke at length on tariff and bank deposit guaranty and accused Mr Taft of not being satisfied with the Republican platform and forced to continually amend it. During a two hour stay in St Paul he had breakfast in an uptown cafe reached after a brisk walk.
Charles B. Roberts, shot on the Board Walk in Atlantic City, was reported to be dying early this morning. Police and hospital sources provided the update as investigators sought to learn motives and identify suspects.

A large parade through the city featured about six thousand Spain War veterans led by General Walter Scott Hale. The event drew praise for the navy and included survivors of the Maine and the cable cutters, with many veterans and distinguished medal of honor recipients among the carriages and participants.
The Rev. Silvanus Hayward, pastor of Union Church, died this morning in Southbridge aged 79 years 9 months and 28 days.
