Washington reports all National Guard units will be returned to their state mobilization camps by October 1. The government plans to release the guard from federal service shortly after units reach their state destinations.
Maurice E M'Laughlin, former national champion, was defeated yesterday in the national tournament by George M Church. The match ends a notable run for M'Laughlin as Church advances in the competition.

Willam Shaw, general secretary of the United Society of Christian Endeavor and Prohibition candidate for governor last year, was seriously injured yesterday morning when the auto between Profile Hensa and North Woodstock overturned. He suffered a compound fracture of the left arm and a fracture of the right thumb and was taken to Lowell General Hospital. Mrs Shaw and two other passengers besides the chauffeur escaped injury. The crash was caused by loose sand in the roadway.
Forest Hills New York September 1 The defeat of Maurice FE Mc Loughlin the idol of American lawn tennis at the hands of George M Church was the outstanding feature of the fourth round of the national singles championship tournament on the courts of the West Side Club today.

In Taunton on September 1 Carl Hosey aged 14 drowned after losing control of a swimming device in swift river currents. His two companions could not help and the body was not recovered.

A well dressed man about 175 pounds jumped feet first out a window two miles south of Gerrish station as the Chicago express traveled about 45 miles an hour. The incident occurred this afternoon with no report yet of his fate or identity.
