New Graves Light Goes Onto Service With 192 000 Candle Power
A new Graves light began service last night off Massachusetts Bay four and a half miles northwest of Eggs Rock. The beacon, 100 feet above high water with the lamp at 97 feet, emits a white double flash every six seconds and can be seen up to fifteen and a half miles. Captain Elliot C. Hadley, longtime keeper on Plum Island, becomes head keeper of the new light. Construction since June 1908 has cost over 100000 dollars, with more to come before completion.
