Eaton Jury Decided Widow Not Insane

A nine hour deliberation by a twelve jurors in the Eaton murder case ended with a verdict that Mrs. Maton Eaton was sane and not guilty of murder. The jurors split nine to three early, then shifted to ten for acquittal as they weighed motives and evidence, while a minority argued she was not responsible. The judge had allowed testimony on mental state but the panel ultimately rejected it, choosing innocence over motive. Mrs. Eaton expressed relief and plans to return to the country with her family, describing a difficult life and renewed hope. She spoke of writing her life story and living at Assinippi with her children Dorothy June and the baby.

Runaway horse injures driver and passenger near Dorchester Ave

A horse and wagon from Castle Square Stable driven by Dennis Splain ran away at Dorchester avenue and Fourth street just before 8 PM. Splain was thrown but unharmed. the wagon struck Dr. Andrew Hill’s car at 64 Dorchester avenue injuring Mrs. Hill’s arm. The horse was halted near the South station.

Engineer Hit by Swinging Gate at Milton Crossing

Isaiah F. Harding a New Haven railroad locomotive engineer from Hyde Park was badly cut about the right eye and head when a broken gate at Central street Milton swung into his locomotive cabin as it was lowered. He was removed to Boston City Hospital for treatment.

Workman Killed in Mattapan Auto Crash

John Byrnes a 68 year old papermaker from Mattapan was fatally injured when his bicycle was struck by John R. Chadbourne of Hyde Park on River Street. Byrnes died two hours later at Hyde Park General Hospital. Chadbourne was detained for questioning. police planned to seek a warrant in West Roxbury Court. Byrnes leaves a wife and four children.
