Orchard Day Celebrated by New Hampshire Fruit Growers

Fruit growers from all sections of New Hampshire gathered in Durham to celebrate Orchard Day on the eve of the event. Seven of the state's largest Granges sent extensive exhibits for display tomorrow in this first edition of the observance.

Federal control favored by railway commissioners

After a long acrimonious debate the National Association of Railway Commissioners adopted a report recommending rigid federal and state supervision of the issuance of stocks and bonds by utility and railroad corporations. Commissioner Eshelman of California submitted the report.

Interstate Commerce stance on stock and bond regulation by law

A convention endorses limiting stock and bond purposes by law and authorizing commissions to ensure proceeds serve issued purposes. It supports ICC regulation of interstate carriers and urges Congress to empower the ICC. President Wilson ordered a statement from the Internal Revenue Commissioner Osborn assuring that Congress removal of deputy collectors from civil service protection does not bring back the spoils system. He told collectors that the move was for efficiency and does not imply political patronage.

More Suit to Block Bond Issue

Ex Governor Morgan G Bulkeley of Hartford and Charles S Ensign of Newton file a bill in equity in the Supreme Judicial Court against the New York New Haven Hartford railroad to block a bond issue. Efficiency and integrity in appointing officers urged

Collectors are urged that the aim of the law is efficiency only and that using this class of appointments for personal gain or spoils will be treated as a serious breach of public duty. In future, when vacancies or changes arise, collectors must forward names and qualifications to this office before any appointment, and no appointment in this class shall be made without departmental approval.

The commission authorized 67 552 000 in bonds and 675 520 additional shares. George W. Anderson dissented. James F. Jackson filed a bill for complainants stating the extra shares will not go to all stockholders but only to holders of convertible bonds to be issued.

Senate committee reshapes currency bill details

Washington Oct 29 The Senate committee moved to refine the administration currency bill. It passed over for later action the idea of a central government bank in place of the regional bank plan while evenly divided on the substitution, and concentrated on perfecting the measure.

Federal Reserve Board to Grow Nine Members Lead by Expiring Terms

Amendments today liberalize the fed eral reserve board by expanding its size from seven to nine and removing the Secretaries of Agriculture and the Comptroller of the Currency from service. A pending change would remove the Treasury Secretary and ex-officio members. The panel aims for staggered terms and immediate appointment to organize a central or regional bank system, with debate on how many regional banks to create if the regional plan continues.

Probers Visit Wreck Scene Near Westerly

Officials of the Interstate Commerce Commission inspected the wreck site of the Gilt Edge express near Westerly, where about 35 people were injured last Saturday night. Three Thrown From Carriage In Cambridge Accident

Mrs Perlina Liolman of Cambridge and Mrs Annie Fosdin with her 4 year old daughter Mildred of Roxbury narrowly escaped serious injury when Liolman’s horse shied at a car on Massachusetts Avenue near Lansdowne Street. The carriage occupants were thrown into deep mud and evacuated after the horse bolted toward the Harvard Bridge.
