Jersey City Murder Suspect Arrested in Somerville

Harry C. Jackson, wanted for murder in Jersey City since Oct 4, was arrested early Wednesday at his sister Laura Whitney’s home 38 Irving Street Somerville. He was held at Union Square police station and handed over to Jersey City Detective John Close for transport to Jersey City.

Multiple Injuries From Fort Hill Square Incident

Mrs. Lucilla Baker of 161 Quincy Street was struck by a team in Fort Hill Square and sent to Massachusetts General Hospital. Frank J. Galliani, 29, Dorchester, suffered a compound fracture of the left arm after his horse team broke and crashed in Marlboro Street. John Cunniff, 10, of 8 Cross Street, was run over at Union and Friend streets by Henry Wood of 163 Pearl Street Chelsea, sustaining serious injuries. Ada Wilson was arrested for larceny of a gold watch and chain from Edward Soule at 57 Beach Street. Theft reported from West Roxbury included 700 cigars stolen from the MetropolitanRailroad waiting room at Washington and Martin, and a silver watch, chain, and $9 pocketbook from John Wentworth’s boarding house room on Brookside Avenue.

Plymouth Grand Jury Presentments Involving Multiple Defendants

The Plymouth Mass grand jury returned presentments with arraignments and not guilty pleas from Patrick Carroll and John Coffee of Bridgewater for mischievo usly driving a state workhouse horse, William Barry of Chelsea for break ing and entering John Hays of Brockton’s house, and others for perjury, larceny, adultery, assault, and related offenses. Indictments include Frank Wing and Emma Griffin for adultery in Brockton, and offenses against the commonwealth, officers, and local properties across Brockton, South Abington, Weymouth, and Marshfield. Arthur Poole pled guilty to larceny from a person.

Porter Named Police Commissioner and Board Roles

Gen Fitz John Porter took office as police commissioner in New York City at headquarters with Mayor Edson. He joined all committees and chaired the police pension fund board. Institute fair attendance tops season as exhibitors relocate

Yesterday's attendance at the Institute fair drew thousands of excursionists along with strong local patronage. The Mexican exhibit will move to Worcester for about two weeks, and a prominent manufacturer has offered permanent workshops in the Institute building with year round power. The idle space for ten months yearly intrigues New England manufacturers seeking city locational advantages. Only three days remain to visit the fair.

Immense Fair Day Draws Thousands To Exhibition

It was another immense day at the fair yesterday with over 7000 visitors by early evening. The electric railway carried over 1200 passengers, showing strong demand for rapid transit. Sugar manufacture displays impressed farmers, shoe factories attracted crowds, and art galleries showcased superb collections. The exhibition closes after three days, positively on Saturday evening.

Chelsea Man Steals Horse and Carriage. Arrested

Robert Judge of Chelsea took Dr. R. C. Gunter of Charlestown’s horse and carriage on Wednesday afternoon. Capt. Bureham of the municipal court confronted the thief, who rode at 10 miles per hour, wrested the reins, and steered the horse toward station 15. At the station the thief was locked up and the horse and carriage returned to their owner.

Missing Malden man Richard Williams Believed Lost

Richard Williams, over 80, of Malden, disappeared from home Wednesday and remains unfound. Authorities fear an accident may have occurred as his whereabouts are unknown and he is believed to be of unsound mind.

Fire damages shed and hay at Arlington home

A small fire broke out Wednesday morning at the Arlington home of Mrs. E A Fisher when hay under a shed caught flames and burned the shed before firefighters moved the load. Little damage resulted to the buildings. Separately, Swampscott fisherman George Stanley, age 60, was run over and killed by a train on the Eastern road. authorities suspect suicide in the fatality. An alarm from Quincy box 72 reported a minor bedding fire at a house owned by the Farnum Smith heirs and occupied by Edgar Hayden at Quincy Point. In Lynn, a Central Congregational church prayer meeting urged temperance and marked St John’s presidential support.

Locust Point freight engine explodes killing two workers
