Fire destroys Market Street buildings killing many
A major blaze in Philadelphia today destroyed the eight story Hunt Wilkinson & Co. and adjacent structures at 1219 and 1221 Market Street and a long adjoining building. Police and fire crews searched the ruins for more victims as authorities reported at least twenty injured and a property loss exceeding 500000. The fire damaged multiple businesses and extended toward Commerce Street with Hen ry G. Lea listed as owner of the larger building. The known dead tally was being updated as crews recovered remains.
