Repairs for Hector Steam Collier At East Boston Yard
The damaged steam collier Hector is being repaired at Jackwood's ship yard in East Boston with an expected ten day finish. Repairs include renewing seven plates eight frames and forty feet of iron rail plus three deck beams. A large influx of vessels and cargoes followed with fish shipments and various steamer movements noted along the harbor. The dockside bustle includes seining and trawling efforts and cargoes of cotton wool and lumber inbound from New Orleans and Mystic Pier. The era's harbors teem with traffic as pilots bring in ocean liners and lighter craft, while longstanding ferries meet their end in a bid to modernize.
