pursuit of Early's army ends as 3600 captured in raid

Washington dispatch reports 3600 Confederate troops captured with 1500 at Harper's Ferry and 1000 at Winchester on Oct 24. Rebels claim Early's losses may reach 10,000 as 20 new brass guns and 12,000 small arms are seized. Wounded are moved to Martinsburg as Sheridan prepares for another move.

Dictator arrives as front quiets and deserter shot

Washington reports the steamer Dictator arriving from City Point as front activity remains quiet. A soldier from the 63d New York is shot for desertion after a prior pardon. Captured men near Warrenton impersonate Confederate officers. one may be Chapin Chapman's guerilla. Postal money orders to begin next month. Johnson and Sutton contrabandists trial ends with strong punishment claim, verdict pending. Hamilton Easter & Co. case set for tomorrow.

Rebels execute Major Wilson and men after Pilot Knob capture

The dead include Major Wilson of the 3d Missouri Legislature and six of his men said held by rebels for alleged killings in Arkansas. A rebel major and six privates are hostage in Alton prison, likely to be shot in retaliation. Dispatches describe Price’s movements, recent casualties, and prisoner counts.

Gun tests and arrivals mark New York news day

Gold fell to 2144 after the Board and the Louisiana steamship from Liverpool arrived 12th Inst. The 10 inch gun will be tested at Fort Hamilton tomorrow. Gen Bidwell's body arrived for a grand funeral while Washington reports the Internal Revenue Commissioner ordered suits against express firms discontinued for missing stamps.

Blockade Runner Fleet Reaches Nassau and Bermuda

From Halifax the steamer Mavrocordatos reports Little Hattie arrives at Bermuda with 600 bales of cotton while Hope carries 1500 bales and Falcon 700 bales to Nassau from Wilmington. Pirates Tallahassee and Edith depart Wilmington with Little Hattie for a raid and Col Lamb sails from Halifax.

Six Arctic whaling ships reach San Francisco with gold haul

Six more vessels of the Arctic whaling fleet arrive in San Francisco. The Sierra Nevada brings nearly 300000 dollars in gold from Oregon and British Columbia. Also noted is Vancouver Island Assembly backing a Federal Union with British Columbia and generally favorable mining news. The Nicaragua steamer America reached port with passengers who left New York on Sept 24.

Mexican officials aboard steamer Louisiana share voyage details

The Louisiana from Baltimore arrived with Major Gen. Doblado and Senor Romero among its passengers. Also aboard were forty eight deserters and prisoners from the rebel army who arrived from Gen. Butler's lines last night and have taken the oath of allegiance, heading north.

Official county totals show Democratic edge in Hanksmvee race

In Hanksmvee Pennsylvania on October 25 the official Democratic majority reaches 40 020 with Abolition at 39 867. An excess of 153 favors Democrats pending Forrest County tally which will officially report its Democratic majority.

The sale of bred horses from the late Wm. McDonald estate drew a large crowd in Baltimore on October 25. Flora Temple was bought by Geo. F. Presbury of New York for 8000 dollars.
