Peculiar Nuptials and Odd Tales from Gilded Era Rail Streets
A suggestive Alameda tale recalls a couple meeting on an omnibus to North Beach and planning life together after a glove drops. Missouri girls dubbed fair arrivals, while a Last Chance mining camp diary describes a 1857 quake night with rattled store shelves and a wild wind. A cloaked stranger in Boston prowls Tremont Street, boards a car, resists pursuers, and leaps to his death after a bank note ruse as a conductor contends with a drunken rider near Roxberry.
