D'Indy Symphony Reviewed In Paris Promenade

A 1916 18 symphony in memory of the German invasion and allied victory receives mixed verdicts. The second movement earns the strongest praise for its sustained musical excellence while the finale and overture showier, less uniform. Conductor Monteux marshals a rich performance though some critics call portions overelaborate. The Siegfried Idyl and Liszt pieces close the concert with notable artistry.
