Pretty sisters charged with embezzling $100 in Newark
CHARGED WITH STEALING $100. Pretty 18 year old Bessie Moore and her 21 year old sister Juanita were taken to police headquarters by Inspectors Bogan and Burke, charged with embezzlement from Mrs. Florence L. Bailey of New York. The crime is alleged to have occurred in Newark where the sisters worked selling tickets. They deny guilt and claim innocence. A lawyer is engaged to defend them and influence is alleged in their favor. A close friend says Mrs. Bailey once sent them $50 to return to work for her. The sisters, from Litchfield Ill, have known Bos ton connections and were involved in a concert last June at Hotel Brunswick. The case may extend beyond today’s court disposition with threats of illegal imprisonment proceedings by a business associate.

The British third class cruiser Psyche entered New York Harbor to search for an absconding paymaster, then departed without saluting. The British consul-general stated no official communication on the salute and noted naval practice allows small gun crews to skip such salutes.
