Waltham Freight Wreck Blocks Fitchburg Line for Hours

A freight wreck near Moody Street Waltham halted Fitchburg system for about eighteen hours. Leonard Cooper was cut in the train while Engineer McGilvery escaped injury, and Fireman Harry Downs lay unconscious. Engine and car damage valued at about 80000 dollars. wreckage stacked thirty feet high at Watertown junction. Cause traced to signaling errors as eastbound freight collided with an extra freight.

Four Firemen Die as Fire Rages Through St Paul Packing Plant

A deadly blaze at A V Hinman & Co packing house in Minnesota Transfer killed four firemen and injured several others. The incendiary fire, fanned by a south wind, caused about 130000 in losses across the packing house and nearby warehouses. Firefighters faced water shortages and a torn-up bridge access while flames spread from the packing house to the Northwestern Line warehouse and a McCormick Harvester warehouse, where a gasoline tank exploded burying the men. Victims’ bodies were recovered as losses totaled at McCormick Harvester and other properties.

Mass in House and Fatal Train Wreck Shock Worcester Area

In North Brookfield St. Anne's Church was closed and Father Berger led Mass at his home for 40 followers before a Worcester gathering of French Catholics. Signal at cemetery bridge caused deadly freight collision

An eastbound freight and a westbound pick up collided after signals at cemetery bridge and Moody street showed conflicting tracks. Engineers and a fireman were injured, with wrecking crews clearing three tracks.
