Quick Trail of Fur Robbers From Warerooms

Thieves stole about 15000 dollars worth of fur from J. R. Labelle’s warerooms in the Little Building on Thursday night and fled to a Cochituate summer camp. Two hours later police tracked the cab route, found the house party there, and recovered all the furs hidden in mattresses and concealed under clothing. The two principal thieves escaped through an upper window as officers questioned others.

Strauss Zeal and Flaws Dominate Boston Symphony Program

The Boston Symphony Orchestra under Pierre Monteux featured Dvorak and Rimsky Korsakoff works plus Frances Alda of the Metropolitan Opera. Yet Richard Strauss Also Sprach Zarathustra overwhelmed the program with its vast vision and demanding passagework. Alda’s singing drew praise while Marx songs provided effective contrast with generous orchestral color. The review notes Strauss’s bold reach and the need for conductors to master the score beyond literal reading.
