Salem Man Powers Dies In Boston Bicycle Crash

Powers of Salem, a 30 year old businessman and bicycle enthusiast, died after a Boston accident. He leaves a wife Gertrude Williams and two children, with one son aged four surviving. He managed his father John Powers’ Highland Avenue enterprise and helped run Salem Bicycle Club road races. his tandem partner Thomas O Connell joined him on the ride. He had just left for a spin at about 10 AM and stopped at his brother in law shop earlier. The death shocks Salem family friends and the medical staff at Boston City Hospital.

Indiana Arrives in Philadelphia After Trial Run

The battleship Indiana reached Philadelphia from its New England trial amid heavy seas. It logged a 33 hour Boston Light to Delaware capes crossing at 12.63 knots, left Boston Friday night, and arrived this morning. A coal consumption test lasted six hours on the return voyage, with results pending calculations. The ship then travelled 105 miles up the Delaware River to Cramps' shipyard in nine hours and will be commissioned early next month.
