A fire started in a stable at about 7 PM and by midnight it burned fiercely with little hope of containment. The business district was destroyed, the village in danger, and Keip requested from Crisfield and Wilmington. Damage exceeds 1,000,000 dollars and many residents are homeless.
In Cornet Illinois three frame buildings housing a drugstore grocery and general store burned early today causing about 15000 dollars in losses with roughly half insured. In Backmore Maryland a residence north of Baltimore county was destroyed by an incendiary last night with contents lost valued around 25000 dollars and insured. In Providence Rhode Island the Shaw Baptist Church Old Warwick built last year burned this morning starting from the heating system with damage about 5500 dollars and 3000 dollars insured.
Patrolman Ritter seized a small amount of liquor at 31 Bachelder street yesterday morning. Sergeant Butters arrested Jason Chamberlain for selling liquor on Sunday at 3 o'clock from No 2 Bowdoin square. Officers including Butters seized several gallons at 179 Court street and small amounts at 7 and 9 North Russell street. Officers Quimby Brickley Dengan and Feit captured a lot of liquor at 25 Lowell street at 0:20 o'clock.
A horse owned by Otis Sheppard of Dorchester ran away yesterday and struck a lamp post, killing itself and injuring Sheppard who was left unconscious. John L. Stewart of South Boston also had his horse run away on Dorchester Avenue, breaking the buggy and throwing Stewart.
Mr Charles S Gosse and wife, after spending the summer at Bartlett Park Winthrop, reside now at 13 Rutland Square. Invitations drawn many friends Saturday evening including journalists and notable military men. The gathering was described as delightful and enjoyable.

Captain John Anderson of the schooner Silas 1451 tons narrates the Sabine storm driving his vessel ashore through city streets and wrecking buildings. In Baltimore on October 17 John Curran, John Burke, and Dr James Kennedy fought after a political discussion. Burke invited Curran to fight, Curran produced a pistol but was overpowered by Burke. Kennedy struck Curran with a car coupling, and Burke and Kennedy beat Curran to death. Burke and Kennedy were arrested. Curran, formerly a state legislator, was a noted politician.
On Oct 17 in Ganoneave Ontario clerical tensions over sacharis tic and vesper lights culminated in their forcible removal by about twenty congregants just before the morning service. Clergy resistance was mild and later reports note the event amid ongoing church disputes.
Henry Zeigler and Minnie Dever, married in Cincinnati 24 years ago, had a history of quarrels. In Ixapianarouis Zeigler fired three shots at his wife as she refused a kiss, then shot himself through the head. The wife, 32, may survive. Zeigler, 35, died.
At Archbishop Purcell creditors meeting a letter from Ex-Governor George Hoadly was read promising to pay his share as bonds man for the defaulting assignee John E Mannix. After deducting attorney fees the payment totals about 54000.
The Keystone Brewing Company's four story brick warehouse on South Thirty fifth street collapsed at daylight, wrecking the building and destroying a large quantity of beer in kegs. The loss is about £40 000 with no injuries reported. The collapse was due to foundation failure.
Gip Clark, a white man, forced entry at John Young's gambling den in Prins Arkansas on October 17. He argued with Pat Cole, a colored man, and shooting followed. Clark was shot in the mouth, Cole in the arm, while spectators John Bailey and Jim Jones were struck by stray bullets, Bailey in the hip and Jones fatally wounded in the left side. all the wounded are black except Clark.
New Orleans report notes the death of Mike McCool a well known figure in pugilistic circles from kidney disease at Charity Hospital. He was nine years old.

New Haven news item reports Olney McGiverney of Waterbury identified as the man pulled from the Housatonic river at Derby last Thursday. The body showed signs of foul play and investigators, including the coroner, have pressed the case until today when McGiverney arrived in town. the murdered man’s identity remains unresolved.
El Paso reports Judge Manning of Louisiana, the new minister to Mexico, passing through on his way to the City of Mexico. A special car awaited him, sent from Mexico City for his comfort. The tone in Mexico is broadly courteous toward the new envoy.
E. J. Rowel shot his brother E. L. Rowell in cold blood after a quarrel in Barnwell county. The murder occurred yesterday. the victim died within hours. The killer was arrested. The dead man leaves a widow and eight children.
Longpon Oct 17 reports terrible storm effects on British coasts with multiple shipwrecks. Norwegian bark foundered off Tintayvel Wales. 15 perished. Malleay wrecked in Bristol Channel. 20 drowned. Fredrikstad wrecked off Padstow. 19 drowned. Alliance wrecked off Padstow. 4 lives lost. Dozens of bodies washed ashore. some looted by wreckers.
James Oscar Ward, 60, a famed Cornwall N Y oysterman and waterman, fell from a West Fifty-fifth Street dock on Saturday striking his head on the schooner K W Spencer where he served as mate and drowned. He was a well known figure in the local fishing trade.
In Rochester New Hampshire on October 17 funeral services were held for FE. C. Bilackmar a thirty second degree Mason. Special trains brought members of the order from nearby towns including St Paul Commandery KK T and a band from Dover. Impressive services were conducted at the church and cemetery.
The steamer Black Diamond on the Missouri River blew its steam chest near Isbelle Missouri and caused three colored roustabouts to jump overboard and drown. Two others were severely scalded in the incident reported this morning.
Willam J Sherman, a New York priest whose recent marriage caused turmoil, says he left the Catholic Church because he was in love and is now pursuing Baptist ministry. Frank Fort Oct 17 Baron Meyer Charles de Rothschild chief of the Rothschild banking house died suddenly yesterday of heart disease. In 1842 he married his cousin daughter of Baron Nathan de Rothschild who founded the London branch. One daughter married in 1878 to the Duc de Grammont, the other became Princess de Wagram.
Officers Dentt and Devlin of Station 9 arrested John W. Barry and James D. Barr for larceny of a buggy and harness from Mr. Moxey's stable on Kimbal street. Property was recovered.
