Australian beef arrives in Boston ahead of Argentine competition
The first shipment of Australian beef reached Boston by train from New York and will go on sale at Faneuil Hall stalls today. About 10 tons arrived with another 10 tons due Monday. Australian beef will compete with Argentine meat from the Big Four packers as import duties drop. Prices undercut native Western beef, with Australian and Argentine beef selling around 12 dollars per hundred pounds versus 16 for American Western beef. Rump and round steaks priced lower, eggs imported due to tariff removal.
