14 Men Lost in French Submarine Lutin

BISERTA Tunis October 16 The French submarine Lutin disappeared after a plunge in the bay and is thought sunk in 130 feet of water with its 14 crew likely perishing. Tugboats and torpedo boats searched briefly but salvage was halted as seas rose, ending all hope.

England Sends Aid to Search for Submarine

In BISERTA Tunis Oct 16 the Latin with 14 crew under Lieutenant Phoepon and Admiral Bellue reached the salvage area after a dusk to dawn pause. Heavy seas and darkness halted salvage until daybreak. Tugs and torpedo boats stayed near the final plunge site all night, with drag reporting resistance as if a vessel rested below.

Mrs Davis Succumbs After Lingering Illness

After a long illness Mrs Davis showed fragile recovery only to worsen last night. Physicians said death neared and the Rev Nathan A Seagle of St Stephen's Protestant Episcopal Church administered comfort as she faded in the early hours.

Man dies by own action in Public Gardens

A man about 5 feet 6 inches tall and 155 pounds shot himself in the Public Gardens at 1 30 this morning. He was dead on arrival at City Hospital. He left two letters to Arthur E Power and another to Emma Power. A circular from H S Moody Land Company was in his coat pocket.
