Man Assaults Hurley At Tannery Then Surrenders

John Drummey of Smith's tannery attacked Cornelius Hurley of Winslow's tannery after noon. He fired a shot missing its target, struck Hurley’s head against a glass door, and fled before turning himself in to police. Drummey, 14 years with Smith's, cites a family dispute as motive.

Postal card election results show Bryan ahead in Missouri

Partial returns from six states in the Chicago Record postal card contest show Bryan leading McKinley in Missouri while McKinley holds pluralities in Illinois Iowa Indiana Michigan and Nebraska. The bolting vote changes indicate Bryan gains in Missouri Iowa Indiana and Nebraska and McKinley gains in Chicago Illinois and Michigan.

Platform Collapses as Bryan Speaks at Albion. No Injuries

At Albion a sunken platform gave way under William Jennings Bryan and about twenty people as he spoke to roughly two thousand. Bryan jumped to a truck and continued the address while Mrs. Bryan was not present. Reports from Benton Harbor note Bryan's brief stop at Bangor where 1500 attendees gathered before the incident.
