Bennington Postmaster Returns as Embezzler Faces Prison
Thomas J. Tiffany former Bennington postmaster who absconded in March 1884 with about $5,000 in post funds and nearly $5,000 as Bennington grade school clerk was captured near Greeley Colorado by Inspectors Adsit and Bassett. He pleaded guilty to embezzling $1,998.50 in money order funds and $921.99 in postal funds, was fined $2,910.49, and sentenced to five years six months plus six months in a separate indictment. He returned to Vermont in custody with his wife awaiting the verdict.

One of the pleasantest affairs at Winterhill Somerville marked the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Robert G Bell. The event in the new Odd Fellows hall was planned by their children Wm G Bell A D S Bell and Mrs F D Maynard and drew over 250 guests. The hall featured tropical plants and flowers, four parlor sets, and rugs from Gerrish O Brien Boston. The couple received guests at the left as Messer's orchestra provided music. A supper by Tufts of Boston followed at 100 oclock with speeches and an original poem by J M Thompson of the Boston Journal. Newton Centre youth burns as clothes ignite

His mother Martha McNamara, rushing to him, wrapped a Dilanket to extinguish the blaze. He was badly burned but in the care of medical staff at Massachusetts General Hospital. doctors say injuries are not fatal.
