Columbus Day Pageant Draws Wide City Parade Crowd

The Boston Columbus Day pageant featured diverse floats including a Crispus Attucks tribute and a Fort Wagner scene. Fraternal orders and educational groups marched while judges awarded certificates for floats and features amid strong participation from city departments, colleges, and ethnic associations.

Boston Parade Draws Diverse Multitude and Chinese Spotlight

About 16 000 marchers from many nations followed by a cheering crowd in Boston. A flag raising on Boston Common preceded the procession, with Mayor Fitzgerald and Lt Governor Walsh reviewing from Tremont Street and the State House. The Chinese section drew particular attention with silk costumes and elaborate embroidery.

Multicultural Parade Displays and Military Units in City Celebration

The parade featured Chinese, Italian, German, Japanese, Polish, gypsy, and Native American style floats with costumes and banners. Veterans groups, temperance societies, and women suffrage organizations also paraded, along with fire department units and a three horse engine.

Yesterday's parade highlighted marching groups from Italian societies Bishop Cheverus Assembly Knights of Columbus Boston College and High School students St Marys Cardinals Cadets of Charlestown and the Boston Letter Carriers. Special features included the Boston fire department park and recreation department Joseph and His Brethren Company Egyptian pageant Chinese Negro and Polish sections. Floats featured the Lowell Relief Corps No 28 Public Library of Boston German residents Massachusetts Peace Society New England Telephone & Telegraph Company St Joseph C T A Society and Boston Home and School Association.

Columbus Day Parade Held in Manchester Amid Large Turnout

Ten thousand participants from Catholic and civic groups joined a Columbus Day procession in Manchester New Hampshire drawing about 25 000 spectators from multiple cities. The day was marred when Rev Thomas F O Leary chancellor of the New Hampshire Catholic diocese suffered a compound fracture of the right leg after his horse bolted and he was thrown from a carriage. Delegations from Lowell Lawrence Nashua Concord and Keene joined Knights of Columbus in the parade as Bishop Guertin and Mayor Hayes reviewed the event.
